Myrtle Beach BRITFEST Car Show Weekend

JPG HI logo 594x200 TM.001

Even with a threat of rain, the turnout was better than expected at the 13th Annual Myrtle Beach BRITFEST Car Show!. The events kicked off on a bright sunny Friday with a miniature golf outing, a scenic drive around our resort city, and the afternoon reception party. Volunteers worked all week to set up the field for the show, and then the show followed on Saturday. And the rain never materialized, making for a fun car show!

GSBCC Tech Session
Little River, SC

JPG HI logo 594x200 TM.001

Nice day for another GSBCC Tech Session! And this time the focus was on changing brake and clutch hydraulic fluid. We ended up servicing 2 cars and doing a complete flush and bleed all the way around. Some of the brake and clutch fluid was dark brown to black, and definitely needed to be changed! Both owners noticed a distinct improvement when braking and shifting!

Members discovered how easy it is to do a fluid change with minimal tools, and how to do a hydraulic fluid change when there is no one around to help by using a long piece of cheap plastic tubing! It was a fun morning hanging out and working on the cars!

GSBCC Monthly Meeting
Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge
Georgetown, SC

US Fish & Wildlife Logo

If you didn’t make it to this gathering of the GSBCC, you missed a good one! The Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge rolled out the red carpet for the club and provided full access to their headquarter facilities. After connecting with one another in the parking lot as members arrived for the meeting, we all went inside and were treated to an introduction to the refuge, it’s history and purpose by one of their amazing volunteers. Then after lunch a dozen of us took a side trip to Hasty Point, the site of a former plantation. With a stately mile long driveway entrance lined by beautiful live oaks, we enjoyed the waterfront scenery, a rice barn, and some fabulous sprawling lawns with even more live oaks and Spanish Moss. Absolutely stunning! Many thanks to Bill Unger for organizing such a scenic day and for leading the GSBCC convoy up this truly awe inspiring entrance, and to the folks at the National Park Service for hosting us!

GSBCC Monthly Meeting
Sons of Italy, Myrtle Beach, SC

sons-of-italy-logo

A hot, steamy summertime heat wave kept attendance down at the July meeting of the Grand Strand British Car Club. The cars that were there were more recent models with air conditioning and the convertibles all had their tops up! Sorry, it was way too hot to go outside and take car pictures!

But it was fun to connect with friends in the club, talk about cars and upcoming club events and get some of club’s the new regalia! The group welcomed new member David Lenning too!

Many thanks to the folks at the Sons of Italy for hosting the club!

GSBCCTech Session
Tire Alignment with a String
Little River, SC

JPG HI logo 594x200 TM.001
These tech sessions are growing in popularity as more GSBCC members discover how easy it is to maintain their cars and perform maintenance tasks that they have never done before.

This time it was how to do a front end alignment with a string! It was a fun morning as members learned how to do a front end tire alignment using nothing but 2 pieces of string, a screwdriver and a couple of wrenches. We did alignments on a TR6 and an MGB and brought both cars to back to a perfect factory correct toe-in specification. While working on the MGB we also discovered that the steering rack was bone dry and had not been lubricated in the current owner’s experience. So we opened up the rack & pinion gearbox, filled it with 90 weight GL4 grade gear oil, rotated the brass compression pad 90 degrees to expose fresh metal, and resealed the rack. The steering now feels “smooth as butter”, with no looseness when turning the steering wheel, and the car runs perfectly straight with no hands on the wheel!

We hope more members will attend these sessions and learn how to some additional routine maintenance tasks that classic cars require.

GSBCC at the
BMCCF British Car Show
Wilmington, NC

BMCCF Logo

It was a really pleasant Grand Strand British Car Club convoy drive from Little River to Wilmington for the annual British car show held by the British Motor Club of the Cape Fear. Everyone had their convertible tops down for the 1 hour ride!

Once there, we parked quickly and enjoyed the nice car show. Just after Noon a fast moving storm came through the show field, curtaining some of the fun. But many participants stayed in the club’s tents until the weather quickly passed by.

All show participants enjoyed free admission to the Scottish Highland Games held at the same location, replete with a hammer throw, caber toss and other athletic events.

Many thanks to our friends at the BMCCF for holding this terrific car show!

GSBCC Visits Myrtle Beach Manor
Myrtle Beach, SC

2026-05-16 Myrtle Beach Manor

What a joy is was to bring our cars out for the residents of Myrtle Beach Manor to enjoy. Most of the seniors have given up driving, but many of the either owned or knew someone who owned a British car.

Seeing our member’s cars brought back a LOT of fond memories for the residents, some of whom shared some detailed stories of their experiences. It was a small thing for us to do this, and bring some fun to .Myrtle Beach Manor. The smiles and laughter said it all!

The staff did a fantastic job setting up the event which included door prizes for club members and tables of iced tea and delicious refreshments. May thanks to Christina and Heidi for having us visit!

2026-05-14 Lake Waccamaw State Park

The weather could not have been better for a springtime 1-hour convoy from Loris to nearby Lake Waccamaw in North Carolina. What a great sight as the convoy arrived!

Cars gathered at Black’s Tire on Highway-9, and then drove the scenic back country roads to the park for a delightful time of camaraderie and friendship, and a nice picnic lunch.

With the park nearly empty, the group had no problem parking together and finding picnic tables. The group welcomed new members and enjoyed the beautiful setting of the state part while eating their picnic lunch, walking out a very pretty boardwalk, and During a very brief meeting the group was brought up to speed on the many upcoming events that members are encouraged to attend (see the club calendar for details).

April 14-16, 2026
GSBCC at
60th Gathering of the Faithful
MG Car Show
Port Canaveral, FL

Gathering of the Faithful South

The GSBCC convoy from South Carolina was only 1,134 miles round trip to the 60th Gathering of the Faithful South in Port Canaveral. GOF South is one the largest MG car shows in the southeast, drawing cars from as far away as Virginia.

On day 1 the event included a fantastic dinner at the local British pub in Cocoa Beach. On day 2 there were multiple lectures on topics of interest to MG owners, scenic drives around the space coast area, NASA’s Kennedy Space Center, a local war-birds air show, and the reception dinner. The final day included the car show, more lectures and drives, a fabulous awards banquet, and even a bourbon tasting!

Enjoy these pictures of the parking lot at the Pig & Whistle British Pub, the car show and the awards banquet!

This show was a lot of fun, and we hope more MG’s from the Grand Strand British Car Club will join the convoy to Florida in 2027.

WahoosFishHouseLogo

Another good turnout for the eeting at Wahoos Fish House! The weather was crisp and clear, with bright blue sunny skies as members arrive in their British cars. After some quality time in the parking lot to catch up with one another we all went inside this fine restaurant for a quick meeting and the lunch.  With a great waterfront view we enjoyed a good meal together while continuing to talk about upcoming car shows, tech sessions, cruise-ins and drives, and other club events. Many thanks to Wahoos for hosting the Grand Strand British Car Club!

What a fantastic day for some British car fun! Beautiful, clear, sunny, blue skies graced all the members who made the trip on a delightful day to Calabash NC for the March get together of the Grand Strand British Car Club. Many members arrived early to spend time with friends and talking about cars before going in for a delicious meal at this famous roadhouse restaurant. 16th Anniversary Celebration
and
Shine & Show
The Boathouse, Myrtle Beach, SC

boathouse_logo_web-tr

It was a cold, sunny and blustery day for the Shine & Show and the 16th GSBCC Anniversary Celebration! Despite the cold, there was a good turnout of enthusiastic people for this fun time together. Fewer convertibles this time, and all the tops were up! Not many members stayed outside for any length of time, and all preferred to go straight inside and stay in the warmth to spend several hours reconnecting with old friends in the club and making new friends too. The Club also gave a warm welcome to new members Roger & Sophie Rueda and Glenn & Martha Sledge. Many thanks to everyone at The Boathouse for their excellent service and great food!

GSBCC Meeting At
Tide To Table, Pawleys Island

With temperatures climbing well into the upper 70’s and sunny afternoon skies it was a perfect winter day for a leisurely drive to the January meeting of the Grand Strand British Car Club! Many members gathered early in the parking lot to catch up with friends and talk cars and then headed inside for a truly excellent lunch at Tide to Table on the beach in Pawleys Island.

Several new members were welcomed to the club at this meeting. Plans were discussed for upcoming club drives, future meetings, and opportunities for our members to participate in a variety of springtime British Car shows.

The upstairs location on the oceanfront offered spectacular views of the Atlantic. All members really liked the excellent meals, and the service by the wait staff was terrific too! Many thanks to everyone at Tide to Table for hosting the Grand Strand British Car Club!
